Sherwood, Oregon has been named among the twenty most livable towns in America, as well as one of America’s most “family friendly” small towns. It is rich in history and saw the beginning of its growth during the California Gold Rush of 1849. It began as a farming community with its inhabitants building log cabins from the surrounding forest. In the late 1800s, Sherwood became a manufacturing center from its brickyard, which provided much of the building material for homes and businesses in early Portland. The town was then supported by a fruit and vegetable cannery as well as a tannery. Today, Sherwood maintains its roots in agriculture through its farms, orchards and vineyards. Engineering, all types of construction and independent manufacturing firms have now located and are thriving in this beautiful country setting outside the bustle of the surrounding metropolitan area.
